Miller, Ramos lead SF at Glenn Rogers meet

Miller, Ramos lead SF at Glenn Rogers meet

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Mackenna Miller won the junior varsity 3,200-meter run with a time of 11 minutes, 47.39 seconds; while freshman Celeste Ramos placed second in the JV 1,600 at 5:33.81 for the top St. Francis finishes at the Glenn Rogers Distance Carnival, hosted at Sheldon High Friday night.

Additionally, senior Jordan Brace had the Troubadours' top varsity performance, placing 13th in the 1,600 (5:47.23) then 17th in the 800 (2:41.36).

Ramos led a 2-3-4 Troubie crew in the 1,600, just slightly behind winner Kylie Jones of Pleasant Grove. Miller came in third at 5:35.27, with Sophia Hernandez right on her heels with a 5:36.38 performance. The Miller-Ramos-Hernandez trio went 1-2-4 in the 3,200 to finish St. Francis' action for the night.

Emilia Ryan (2:35.57) and Violet Panton (2:43.91) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, to lead the Troubies in the JV 800.

As is common for distance meets, the top finishers in any given heat – regardless of overall finish – pick up awards. Abi Wallace placed fourth in her section in the JV 1,600 before the Ramos-Miller-Hernandez scored hardware for the second heat. Junior Morgane Bertran was among the Troubies to score two medals, placing third in her 1,600 heat then second to lead off the varsity 800.

Formerly the Sheldon Distance Carnival, the Glenn Rogers meet was renamed in honor of the beloved coach who passed away in 2021. The meet features middle school, club and high school fields.

St. Francis' top distance runners sat out the Sheldon meet to prepare for the Sacramento Meet of Champions, held Saturday at American River College. A summary of Troubie entries at the SMOC is available below. The Open events take place in the morning and early afternoon, with the Invitational session running in the evening.
