Montoya named as SF head flag football coach
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Steve Montoya, one of the architects of Ponderosa High’s flag football success, will take over as the head varsity flag football coach at St. Francis Catholic High School, Director of Athletics Ryan Chisolm announced Monday. The 2026 season begins in August, although Montoya’s appointment will include the school’s youth summer camp in June plus preseason workouts and other organized team activities.
McDougall, Gutierrez leads fall All-SFL winners
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Maria McDougall and freshman Alyssa Gutierrez earned Sierra Foothill League MVP honors for girls’ tennis and cross country, respectively, as the league rolled out its fall slate of standings and awards.
Troubie flag duo earns MaxPreps All-Section
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore defensive back Monet Zauner snared second-team distinction while junior receiver Tayli Paeu-Lindgren earned honorable mention, representing St. Francis on MaxPreps’ second-annual All-Sac-Joaquin Section awards, as announced by that website this week.
Troubies end season in playoff heartbreaker
ANTELOPE, Calif. – Junior Tayli Paeu-Lindgren scored a touchdown on each side of the ball while senior running back Jade Abalateo caught a go-ahead scoring pass with 1:25 remaining, but Antelope marched 66 yards down the field in the final 85 seconds for the game-winner as St. Francis lost, 34-33, in the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II girls’ flag football championship tournament Wednesday night.
Troubie flag to open SJS playoffs at Antelope
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis earned a No. 10 seed and will travel to seventh-seeded Antelope for the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II girls’ flag football tournament, as the section office announced via MaxPreps. Game time is 6 p.m., with tickets available only via the GoFan website and app.
