Troubies shine in new and classic meets

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Jasleen Gandhoke won two events while Alexa Randall hit a massive personal record in the 200-meter dash, highlighting St. Francis at the inaugural Capital Invitational track & field meet at Hughes Stadium, hosted jointly by CK McClatchy High and Sacramento City College.

Gandhoke hacked more than a half-second from her previous 300 hurdles personal record, winning the event with a time of 44.76 seconds. This marks an improvement from the 45.33 at the first Sierra Foothill League center meet this year, and moves her into third in the school record book by a hundredth of a second: Ingrid Kantola's PR was a 44.77 at the 2004 Sac-Joaquin Masters meet.

Gandhoke later added a win in the high jump, clearing 5-foot-2 on her second attempt. She then opted to move the bar up by three inches to 5-5, barely missing that height on her second jump. Gandhoke and Woodcreek's Amaya Grant were the last remaining competitors at 5-0, which they each hit on the first try.

In between Gandhoke's two wins, Randall finished second in the girls 200-meter dash with a time of 24.39, runner-up only to Ohio State signee Naiaja Sizemore of Vanden, who won in 23.94. Randall, who previously ran a 24.99 at the Inderkum Invitational, moved within a 20th of a second of school record-holder Cekarri Nixon, whose 24.34 in the 2010 SJS Masters prelims remains the program benchmark.

Also in the long hurdles, senior Colleen Medina won her heat with a time of 48.32, lopping off 0.52 from her previous PR at the second SFL center meet. Primarily a 200 and 400 runner in her first three seasons, Medina switched to the 300 hurdles this year. The Capital Invite represents just her third meet for that event in 2026.

The Capital Invite continues on Saturday. All remaining field events are collegiate fields, while the running events consist of both high school and college events.

In addition to a select crew at Sac City College, the entire distance group traveled 90 miles southwest for the 17th Dublin Distance Fiesta. The first 13 of 29 total girls' 1,600-meter sections ran on Friday, as did eight of the 10 3,200 heats. Sophomore Abi Wallace led the five Troubie 1,600 runners on Friday, finishing 13th in her heat and currently ranking 129th overall at 6:29.28. In the 3,200, Emily Colonnello and Chloe Harrison rank fifth (11:42.41) and seventh (11:44.29) to lead St. Francis thus far.

The DDF concludes on Saturday, with Halle Welch, Miya Menza and Alyssa Gutierrez representing St. Francis in the evening "Sombrero" sections – the two fastest races of the 1,600 and 3,200.
