ARCADIA, Calif. – Junior Alexa Randall and freshman Alyssa Gutierrez each ran the second-best performances of their careers in the 400-meter dash and 3,200-meter run, respectively, highlighting St. Francis on the second and final day of the Arcadia Invitational high school track & field meet Saturday.
Randall finished third in the Seeded race of the girls' 400 meters at 55.52 seconds, less than a third of a second shy of her own personal record of 55.21. She and St. Francis record-holder Ariane Arndt remain the only two Troubies ever to run that fast: Randall twice, Arndt three times. Randall remains tied for 10th in the state and tops in the Sac-Joaquin Section at that distance, matching Christian Brothers' Lael Brown.
Gutierrez ran the final Troubadour event of the meet, placing 26th overall with a time of 10:23.70, missing her PR of 10:23.34 from the Stanford Invite one week prior. She had a 5:08.31 split at the 1,600-meter mark, eventually coming home with a 77.03-second bell lap. Gutierrez remains third in the St. Francis record book, with Cate Joaquin holding the school benchmark of 10:20.97 from the 2022 Arcadia meet. The reigning SJS Division III cross country champion also ranks seventh in the state of California, and by far the top freshman. The next closest ninth grader is Sage Creek's Isabel Gladden, 25th in the CIF at 10:40.66. Nationally, Gutierrez tops the freshman leaderboard, more than five seconds ahead of Annabella Tomasic of Bishop Moore (Fla.) (10:28.70).
St. Francis began the day with the Open heat of the 4x100 relay, with the crew of Lucia Vicio, Emma Bugarin, Gaby Gonzalez and Randall finishing with a 53.97 time.
The 2026 Arcadia Invitational marked the 58th edition of a meet self-dubbed the "Home of National Records." Similarly, St. Francis has set numerous of its own standards at Arcadia, including one on Friday: Joaquin in the 3,000 (2022) and 3,200 (2022), Tatiana Cornejo in the mile (2022), Kayla O'Brine in the discus (2014), Izzy Fauria/Joaquin/Sophie DeBenedetti/Claire Silva in the distance medley relay (2019), Vicio/Bugarin/Gonzalez/Randall in the sprint medley relay (2026), Cornejo/Joaquin/Silva/Fauria in the 4x1600 (2019) and Nicole Mendoza/Katherine Enabnit/Meghan Enabnit/Sarah Bolce in the 4xmile (2007).
The Troubadour track & field program returns to full strength for the third of three Sierra Foothill League center meets on Wednesday, this time at Granite Bay with Del Oro and Oak Ridge.
