TOWSON, Md. – Bella McCullough, a 2022 St. Francis High graduate heading to William Penn University, finished almost two weeks of action as a member of the Mexico National Team at the 2022 World Lacrosse Women's Championship in Towson, Maryland last week. The All-Delta League honoree earned a spot on Team Mexico during a tryout in March.
For the tournament, McCullough appeared in all eight games, splitting time in the crease with Boston College alumna Zoe Ochoa. McCullough posted 39 saves with 32 goals against in 240 minutes played, while grabbing seven ground balls with three caused turnovers. Her save percentage of .549 led all net-minders in the 30-team field.
Mexico went 3-1 during the pool play, then finished 15th in the bracket portion, closing out its run with a 15-11 win over Hong Kong. McCullough had eight stops in that game, matching her total against Israel in the bracket opener. Her best contest game in an 8-5 win over Italy on July 2, in which she tallied eight saves with one goal allowed en route to game MVP honors.
