DANVILLE, Calif. – Sophomore attacker Brynley Hodge scored a game-high five goals while senior midfielder Zahra Smith added another four goals with two assists, leading St. Francis to an 11-8 victory over Monte Vista in girls' prep lacrosse action Friday evening.
The Troubadour varsity squad improves to 2-1 for the season.
Meanwhile, the St. Francis junior varsity won by forfeit, as no officials were scheduled for the doubleheader opener.
Smith also led the Troubies with five draw controls and five caused turnovers in the contest. Freshman Karly Okamoto accounted for the remaining two goals. Senior goalkeeper Bella McCullough tallied five saves, including four in the second half.
SFHS transformed an early 4-2 deficit into a 5-4 halftime edge, then scored three unanswered to start the second half. Monte Vista outdrew the Troubies by a 13-7 margin, but Smith's five steals accounted for half of her team's takeaways. Senior Lauren Baleria added another two CTs to the defensive effort.
In the opener, the two teams scrimmaged in lieu of an official game. Zia Smith scored a hat trick, Olivia Hamm added two more goals and Olivia Alvernaz recorded a goal with three assists in a 10-5 exhibition win.
Both teams return to action on Wednesday for a road tilt at Woodcreek in Roseville. Game times are 5:30 and 7 p.m.
