Troubie LAX splits home date with Blue Devils

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. — Freshman attacker Karly Okamoto scored two goals with two assists while Lauren Wieser and Brynley Hodge also netted two scores in a 13-9 varsity loss, while Olivia Hamm exploded for an eight-goal performance in a 16-5 junior varsity victory, as St. Francis split its Delta League home lacrosse doubleheader against Davis at Mather Sports Complex Wednesday night.

The Troubadour varsity squad moves to 8-3 for the year while the JV team improves to 7-3.

St. Francis trailed 7-2 at halftime against the Blue Devils but managed to four goals in a span of three minutes early in the second half to stay within a 10-7 deficit. Elizabeth Barger, Abby Alvernaz and Zahra Smith each added a goal. Smith led the way with six draw controls and three caused turnovers. Senior goalkeeper Bella McCullough posted three saves in the first half.

In the JV opener, Hamm's eight goals outperformed the seven she scored against Del Oro just two nights earlier. Zia Smith chipped in another five, while Olivia Alvernaz contributed a goal with two assists for three total points.

Matea Avery and Sofia Rabinovitz accounted for the remaining two goals. Sofia Rainbolt recorded five saves, all in the first half.

The two St. Francis teams return to action on Friday against Rio Americano. The 7 p.m. varsity contest will also serve as Senior Night, with Wieser, McCullough, Zahra Smith, Abby Alvernaz, Claire Westberg, Johanna Stevenson, Ruby Stevenson and Lauren Baleria earning recognition during a pregame ceremony.
