Troubies top Davis, honor lone senior in dual finale

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Arden Han-Wei and Chloe Jun turned in matching rounds of 1-over-par 37 to lead St. Francis to a 203-216 win over Davis in Sierra Foothill League girls' golf dual action at Haggin Oaks Thursday.

However, the major focus for the Troubadours was lone senior Neta Tovar, who was honored in a postmatch ceremony in the team's Senior Day festivities. Tovar enjoyed the opportunity to be paired with Han-Wei, and finished with a round of 47.

Sophomore Nydia Garcia added a 3-over 39 with fellow 10th-grader Momina Niazi carding a 43 en route to SF's winning team total. Junior Gianna Seghesio rounded out the Troubie lineup, finishing with a 49.

Davis actually matched its hosts in terms of scoring punch at the top of the lineup, with Lily Lingbloom and Alessandra ‑ each matching the 37 by Han-Wei and Jun. However, Garcia's 39 served as the first contributor to the winning margin, as no other Blue Devil shot better than bogey for the round.

The match with Davis concludes the Sierra Foothill League dual schedule, with St. Francis finishing with an 8-6 record. The Troubies return to action on Tuesday at the SFL Championship, hosted at Timber Creek. This is the same course from the league's center tourney on October 1, at which the Troubies placed fourth with 437 strokes. A round of 450 or better will earn the team an automatic berth in the Sac-Joaquin Section postseason. Tuesday's 18 holes feature a shotgun start at noon.
