Troubie golf falls to Del Oro in SFL home dual

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Arden Han-Wei led all players with a 1-under-par 35 while freshman teammate Chloe Jun finished three strokes back to lead St. Francis to a team total of 207 strokes, but a rare tiebreaker took effect to award Del Oro the win despite an identical 207 in a Sierra Foothill League girls' golf dual match at Haggin Oaks Thursday.

The Troubadours move to 7-5 for the season, both overall and in league play.

Sophomores Momina Niaza and Nydia Garcia added scores of 40 and 42, with senior Neta Tovar counting her 52 total. However, Cali Knutson carded a 2-over 38 and Emma Leingang added a 39 to lead five Golden Eagles under bogey, resulting in the matching 207 total. Thus, the otherwise unused sixth score determined the outcome, with Gabby Guidera's 49 outdueling Gianna Seghesio's 54.

Han-Wei sank birdie-3s on each of the 12th and 15th during her round. Jun birdied the par-5 13th, then matched Han-Wei on the 15th. Garcia stuck her tee shot on the par-3 11th just a few yards from the pin, then one-putted her way to the birdie early in her nine-hole afternoon. Niazi made par in each of the first five holes of the Arcade Creek's back nine.

The Troubies return to action in a road match against Oak Ridge at Serrano Country Club on Tuesday, then will honor their lone senior (Tovar) in the 2024 home finale against Davis two days later.
