Han-Wei fires career low in SFL home dual

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Arden Han-Wei holed out an eagle 3 on the famed home hole at Haggin Oaks Arcade Creek course to give her a career-best 6-under-par 30, leading St. Francis in a Sierra Foothill League dual match with area power Granite Bay on Tuesday.

The visiting Grizzlies finished at 3-under 177 as a team, but the Troubadours enjoyed an outstanding day on their own: a team total of 191 for the program's best score in almost six full years.

Sophomore Nydia Garcia carded an even-par 36, freshman Chloe Jun finished at 2-over 38, sophomore Momina Niazi turned in a 41 while junior Gianna Seghesio matched her career best of 46 on the Arcade Creek's back nine. Freshman Mira Smith made her Troubie debut in the match, totaling 58 strokes.

Han-Wei's eagle marked her second in as many days, following her two-under finish on 13 against Folsom on Monday. The 18th, the course's signature hole, is nicknamed "Doublecross" due to the creek cutting through the fairway twice when played from the back tees. Han-Wei left her putter in the bag for this hole, draining a pitch from 20 yards out, clinching her 30 and easily surpassing her previous dual low of 33, set on the front nine in last year's Delta League matchup with Pleasant Grove.

Granite Bay had all five of its scoring players at par or better, with Serene Kim leading the way at 2-under 34. Hailey Peterson had the third best score of the day at 1-under 35, trailing only Kim and Han-Wei. The Grizzlies finished second at both the Sac-Joaquin Division I and Sac-Joaquin Section Masters a year ago.

The 191 marks as the lowest dual team score for St. Francis since October 10, 2018, when the Troubies posted a 186-235 win over Sheldon. Coincidentally, Haanya Niazi – older sister to Momina – was part of that score, and even finished with a matching 41.

Tuesday's dual with GB is the second of three SFL dual matches this week. The team returns to action at Turkey Creek to face Whitney on Thursday.
