ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Junior Arden Han-Wei finished with a 2-over-par 74 to lead St. Francis to a fourth-place team score of 437 strokes in a Sierra Foothill League girls' golf center tournament at a sun-baked Timber Creek Golf Course Tuesday.
Additionally, Han-Wei's 38 on the front nine helped the Troubadours capture a 231-233 win over Folsom as part of the two teams' dual season. The original SFL schedule had St. Francis traveling to Folsom for a head-to-head matchup. However, the eight league teams opted to hold a midseason tourney on the same course as the SFL Championships. As a result, the Troubies and Bulldogs participated in the league tourney, and used the front nine holes for the purposes of the dual match.
Overall, Oak Ridge fired a 2-under-par 358 to beat Granite Bay by seven strokes for the tournament win. Del Oro took third at 432, with SF just five strokes back in fourth. Folsom and Whitney placed fifth and sixth at 460 and 466, respectively. Finally, Rocklin and Davis had matching 476 team totals, with Davis getting the tiebreaker for seventh.
A score of 450 or better during the league championships on October 22 earns a team an automatic berth in the Sac-Joaquin Section postseason.
This also marks the first 18-hole around for most of the league's teams, including St. Francis. Sophomore Nydia Garcia eagled the 318-yard par-4 17th, then followed with a birdie 4 on the 18th to cap a 38 on the back nine and a total score of 82. Freshman Chloe Jun began her day with a birdie 3 on the 9th toward an 87 total. Meanwhile, sophomore Momina Niazi highlighted her day with a birdie on 17 for a final score of 89. Junior Gianna Seghesio and senior Neta Tovar rounded out the Troubadours' individual scoring in the tourney.
In the dual matchup between SF and Folsom, Han-Wei's 38 outraced the Bulldogs' top two of Amelia Karnbanjong and Isabella Bistline, each of whom turned in 3-over 39 scores. Jun chipped in a 45 on the front nine. Making the key difference in the head-to-head scoring were the Nos. 3 and 4 in each lineup: Garcia's 44 and Niazi's 47. Folsom's No. 3 and 4 scorers went 48 and 53 for a 10-stroke difference. Tovar and Seghesio scored 57 and 59 toward the dual.
St. Francis is now 6-3 for the season. The Troubies get right back to league dual play at Granite Bay on Thursday. Tee time is 3 p.m.
