Troubie JV Red advances to Trojan Toss-Up championship

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. -- Point guard Karly Okamoto scored a game-best 19 points while post Alexis Heise added 17, leading St. Francis' JV Red to a 53-27 win over host Oak Ridge in the semifinal round of the Trojan Toss-Up girls' basketball tournament.

The Troubadours improve to 6-1 for the season.

Impressively, St. Francis prevailed with seven total players, as much of the all-freshman roster is away for the holidays. Lilian Vicio added 10 points with a pair of three-pointers, while head coach John Bashore lauded her defensive effort: "pressuring their top scorer full court, forcing tough shots and causing turnovers."

"The team executed the game plan with precision," Bashore said.

Aubrey O'Donnell, borrowed from the Troubies' JV Gold squad for the week; posted a team-leading nine rebounds and two blocks. Perpetua Nwaukoni had a similar line with eight boards and a pair of blocks.

However, Bashore commended the 5-foot-8 Heise for her post play, with all eight of her field goals coming in the paint against a bigger Oak Ridge front court.

The Troubadours will compete in the frosh-soph tourney championship against River Valley. Tip-off is 1 p.m.
