Miles sets school goals record in SJS semifinals

LOOMIS, Calif. – Senior midfielder Keira Miles scored her 40th career hat trick, bringing her season total to a school-record 72 goals, while freshman Britten Sires recorded a season-best 10 saves in net, but St. Francis struggled to keep pace with top-seeded and undefeated Del Oro, falling by a 13-5 final a Sac-Joaquin Section girls' lacrosse semifinal game at Golden Eagle Stadium Thursday night.

The fourth-seeded Troubadours finish their season at 11-6. The top-ranked Golden Eagles, who have outscored opponents by a total of 296-77, improve to 19-0 and advance to Saturday's championship game against Oak Ridge.

Miles, who scored her 200th career goal in Tuesday's first-round win against Davis, entered the quarterfinal just one goal shy of former teammates Brynley Hodge and Jane Tattersall, who each netted 70 as juniors in 2023. Miles converted an eight-meter goal with 1:31 left in the first quarter to tie the record, took advantage of a power play with a wide roll at the 5:43 mark in the second, then completed her hat trick with another eight-meter score with 4:15 remaining in the game.

Freshman Gillian Hamm and senior Jade Abalateo had the other two Troubadour goals. Hamm followed a hard foul near the 12-meter mark by going straight to the cage, bringing SF to within a 4-2 deficit with 0:48 left in the opening frame. Abalateo had the final SF score, taking possession then completing a long counterattack at the 2:27 mark in the fourth.

Unfortunately, Del Oro accomplished what it has done throughout the season: dominating the draw to the tune of 15 out of the game's 22 total draw controls; and getting offense from its twin towers, with junior Riley Weber netting 10 goals and Sydney Weber adding two more. Riley Weber had seven goals by halftime, at which point the Golden Eagles held an 8-3 advantage, then popped in three more after the break.

Sires, a ninth grader thrown into the starting role in 2026 with Cincinnati-bound Jayel Miller sidelined by injury, posted her first double-figure game of the year with six saves in the first half and four in the second. Miles also picked up four draw controls, bringing that season total to 72; while junior Natalia Zitelli matched Lucia Shepard with two ground balls, and joining Abalateo among the two Troubies with caused turnovers.

Overall, Miles finishes her outstanding career with four-year totals of 205 goals, 21 assists, 61 GBs, 35 CTs and 191 DCs. The 72 draws controlled this year ranks seventh in Troubie history, in between former Fresno State standout Ryleigh Bone (67) and behind current Xavier player Hodge (78). Additionally, her 79 total points in 2026 (72 goals, 7 assists) ties Katie Ku (2008) for eighth all-time at SF.

Sophomore Skye Smith led SF with 25 assists, tied for sixth in school history and the second-best total by a Troubie not named Karly Okamoto. Abalateo closed out her final season with 46 goals and eight assists: tied for 14th on the season record book for goals with Justina Burns (2011). Hamm's 34 goals is the No. 3 best by an SF freshman, behind Hayley Kusserow (38 in 2012) and Sophia Gorona (37 in 2018).
