SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis has earned the fourth seed and will face fifth-seeded Davis in the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section girls' lacrosse championship tournament, the section office announced Friday. Coincidentally, the bracket released less than 24 hours after the Troubadours and Blue Devils squared off for their respective regular-season finales.
The playoff opener takes place at Mather Sports Complex's north field in Mather, Calif. Tickets will be available on GoFan over the weekend. Fans are strongly encouraged to purchase in advance to avoid lines at the entrance.
St. Francis holds a 10-5 overall record with a 9-5 mark in Sierra Foothill League play, good for third place in the final race. Davis closed out the regular season at 8-8, with an 8-6 league record.
The Troubadours have four players with at least 20 goals in their 15 games, with sophomore Skye Smith (21 goals, 24 assists for 45 points), freshman Gillian Hamm (32-9-41) and senior Jade Abalateo (43-8-51) supporting senior midfielder and four-year varsity standout Keira Miles. The Loomis native became the first player in program history to compile two seasons of 60 or more goals, currently leading SF with 63. This puts her three goals shy of her career best from 2025, and eight away from surpassing former teammates Brynley Hodge and Jane Tattersall for the school benchmark of 70.
Miles, who sits a single goal away from breaking the double-century milestone for her career, also paces the Troubies with 65 draw controls, eighth in the school's MaxPreps era (2008 to present). As is, her 199 career goals are likely to be a program standard, although such data is not known, as no records for 2013 and 2021 appear on MaxPreps.
Also among team leaders, Hamm has 22 ground balls while fellow froshie Cali Chambers has 20 GBs with a team-best 12 caused turnovers. The trio of Abalateo, Smith and Hamm also follow Miles in DCs with 37, 22 and 17, respectively.
Davis is led offensively by senior Olivia Ayson with 40 goals and 10 assists, although data is only recorded for 12 of the Blue Devils' 16 games on the high school stats platform.
The SFL claimed six of the eight seeds in the section playoffs. No. 1 Del Oro, No. 2 Oak Ridge and St. Francis had automatic bids in the tourney, with Davis, No. 6 Granite Bay and No. 7 Folsom earning at-large berths. No. 3 Bella Vista and No. 8 Vista Del Lago won the Capital Valley Conference's two auto bids.
The 2026 tourney marks the third in history, as Sacramento area teams previously competed in the North Coast Section until 2024. St. Francis reached the title game in 2024, then lost to Del Oro in the semifinal round last year. The 2026 championship takes place at Woodcreek High on Saturday, May 2.
