MATHER, Calif. – Senior midfielder Keira Miles netted her 200th career goal plus the game-winner with 86 seconds remaining in the contest, then freshman goalie Britten Sires came through with a kick save at 0:20, as fourth-seeded St. Francis captured an 11-10 win over fifth-seeded Davis in a Sac-Joaquin Section girls' lacrosse championship first-round game at Mather Sports Complex Tuesday.
The Troubadours improve to 11-5 for the year. The Blue Devils end their season at 8-9.
Miles finished with a double hat trick, with Jade Abalateo adding two goals, and Gillian Hamm, Lizzie David and Skye Smith chipping in one apiece. Miles entered the contest with 199 career scores, then hit the double-century mark in the final minutes of the first quarter as part of a 4-1 SF start.
The game flow provided a wild ride for both teams. Smith assisted Abalateo in the opening minutes, then David's crease roll broke the tilt's first tie at the 5:30 mark in the first. Miles landed her first trip to the eight-meter arc with 2:10 left in the quarter for that historic 200th goal, then Smith completed an eight-meter chance of her own with 0:33 remaining for the 4-1 opening lead.
Abalateo and Hamm each scored in the second, Davis rallied back to just a 6-5 deficit by halftime, Miles hit back-to-back goals to bump the Troubie lead back to three at 8-5, then the Blue Devils responded with four unanswered to take a 9-8 lead early in the fourth. Freshman Mary Kate Feldt had that go-ahead for Davis on a broken clear attempt near the St. Francis cage. After a teammate overthrew her target, the Troubadours began a transition from their own end line. But Feldt dashed in, intercepted the inbound pass near the right side of the goal circle, then rolled clockwise for the goal with 8:26 left.
Miles followed with another eight-meter conversion to tie the game yet again at 9-9 with 6:44, then two minutes later, Hamm chose not to drive through the arc, opting instead to find Miles along the left side. Miles traveled from left to right in front of the goalmouth, delivering the 10-9 go-ahead at the 4:24 mark. Still, credit Davis' Faith Heringer for controlling the next draw, setting the stage for senior Olivia Ayson to assist Lana Chessman for a fourth tie of 10-10.
Smith won the game's subsequent draw, getting fouled from behind near St. Francis' offensive restraining line. This draw control – relatively rare for the Troubies in the second half – eventually led to Miles getting fouled on the right side. She buried the ensuing eight-meter for her sixth goal, and the Troubies' 11th.

Still, Davis earned the chance of tying the contest for a fifth time when Ayson won the next draw.
The Blue Devils missed their first attempt in that final minute just high, and the Troubies briefly regained possession, only for Chloe Ehlers to scoop up an errant pass in the midfield for a key ground ball. Ehlers went straight to the cage, drawing a shooting space foul in the process. With UC Davis' Sara Ellis and Natalia Zitelli in pursuit, Ehlers uncorked a shot toward the low left of the cage, but just centered enough for Sires to block the attempt with her right leg. Ellis, Zitelli and Lena Schnack battled multiple Blue Devils for the rebound, with Zitelli flipping it back to Sires for a game-saving ground ball.
Zitelli finished the game with a team-high three GBs, Sires' heroics marked her fourth save. Abalateo also caused two turnovers in addition to her offensive contributions. Miles won three draw controls, with Smith and Hamm picking up two more each, but Davis largely won that battle, winning 16 of the 25 total opportunities around the center circle.
