WALNUT, Calif. – A relatively small St. Francis delegation won six individual events and one relay to finish fourth among 26 teams in Saturday's Open division of the Mt. SAC Winterfest swimming & diving meet at the Mt. SAC Aquatics Center.
Junior Lilla Kapinya and freshman Mackenzie Terry each won two events for the Troubadours, with sophomores Lillian Damrell and Riley Wood each claiming one. That four also combined for first place in the 200-yard freestyle relay, plus sixth in the 200 medley relay to kick off the meet.
St. Francis also had three 1-2 exacta finishes, each worth 66 points in the team standings. Terry (2:14.87) and Wood (2:24.16) achieved this in the 200 individual medley, then Terry (1:06.46) joined junior Landen Didriksen (1:11.04) atop the 100 breaststroke podium. Kapinya dominated the 100 freestyle field, touching home in 53.75 seconds, almost five seconds ahead of teammate Damrell, who runnered-up in 58.48.
Kapinya also led a 1-3 Troubie showing in the 50 free, good for 63 team points. The UCLA commit went 24.60, more than two full seconds ahead of Flintridge Sacred Heart's Grace Anich (26.90). Didriksen took third, just behind Anich at 26.96.
Wood added an event win and another 34 points with her 1:03.91 in the 100 backstroke, well ahead of second-place Aimee Halim of Troy (1:11.89).
The Mt. SAC Winterfest spans two days, with the Saturday's Open division following the standard CIF high school dual meet schedule. The Elite division operates like a two-day championship meet, with trials on Friday followed by finals on Saturday afternoon.
The Troubadours return to action on Tuesday for their home opener, a Sierra Foothill League double dual with Del Oro and Rocklin at Jesuit High. The meet will also serve as Senior Night, as the actual home finale takes place during the school's Easter break. St. Francis will honor six 2026 grads during Tuesday's meet: Milena Bonnici, Rose Haag, Charlotte Krause, Gabrielle McHugh, Juliet Shah and Justine Stegall.
