DAVIS, Calif. – Junior Lilla Kapinya captured both sprint freestyle events for St. Francis' lone varsity event wins as the Troubadours fell to host Davis, 114-56, in a Sierra Foothill League swimming and diving meet at the Davis Senior High Aquatic Center. The team score does not yet include 1-meter diving, which contests on Wednesday afternoon.
Kapinya posted a 24.10 in the 50-yard free to outrace Davis' Angelina Valle by a 0.85 margin, with Gabriella McHugh (27.20) and Elyse Pometta (27.95) following in fourth and fifth places, respectively, for a nine-point push in the team scoring. The UCLA commit then followed with a 53.92 to claim the 100 free, although three Blue Devils went 2-3-4 in the 100 free to outscore the Troubadours in that race.
Kapinya claimed the only varsity event wins for St. Francis, with freshman Kathryn Topp (6:32.31) and sophomore Audrey Ellis (6:35.93) going 1-2 in the 500 free for the lone Troubie junior varsity victory.
Sophomore Riley Wood picked up a runner-up finish for four points with her 5:40.79 in the varsity 500 free.
St. Francis heads south to compete in the Mt. SAC Winterfest meet on Saturday, with a team trip to Disneyland also part of the trip. The Troubies then returns to its home pool at Jesuit to host Del Oro and Rocklin for an SFL double dual on Tuesday, March 17. This meet includes the annual Booster-Q, with free burgers and hot dogs for all athletes and spectators, plus the team's Senior Night ceremony. McHugh, Milena Bonnici, Rose Haag, Charlotte Krause, Juliet Shah and Justine Stegall will be recognized during the meet.
Update: St. Francis finished 2-3-4 in Wednesday's 1-meter diving, updating the final team score to 121-65
