FOLSOM, Calif. – Junior Lilla Kapinya and freshman Mackenzie Terry each captured two individual events while also leading off first-place freestyle relays, highlighting St. Francis in a season-opening Sierra Foothill League swim meet against Folsom and Whitney, held at Vista Del Lago High School Tuesday.
The meet is a double-dual between the three league members, with the Troubadours claiming a 94-76 win against the Wildcats and an even wider 107.5-62.5 margin over the Bulldogs.
Kapinya touched home in the 200 free with a time of one minute, 59.36 seconds; then later posted a 24.52 in the 50 free. She then joined a relay foursome with Riley Wood, Landen Didriksen and Lena Moggan for a winning 1:43.83. Wood and Didriksen previously helped St. Francis capture the 200 medley relay, with Terry and sophomore Lillian Damrell swimming the breaststroke and butterfly portions, respectively.
Terry added individual wins in the 100 free (55.30) and 100 breast (1:07.11) as part of her Troubadour debut, with Moggan (1:04.32) and Wood (1:05.28) enjoying a 1-2 finish atop the varsity 100 back leaderboard. Terry, Kapinya, Damrell and Moggan finished the meet with a 3:50.86 in the 400 free relay, almost 10 full seconds ahead of runner-up Whitney (4:00.60).
St. Francis also posted junior varsity wins with Molly Moyer, Gia Navarrete, Kathryn Topp and Audrey Ellis in the 200 medley relay (2:15.70), Topp in the 500 free (6:26.04) and Moyer in the 100 back (1:15.42).
Results were not available in the two girls' 100 fly, 100 breast and 400 free relay events. The one-meter diving portion will run on Thursday, also at Vista. Note: scores and results were finalized on Thursday, Mar. 5. The changes are reflected in this story and in the agate below.
The Troubies return to action at Davis on March 10 for a 4 p.m. dual.
