Welch, Hollar lead SF at Dublin Distance Fiesta

DUBLIN, Calif. – Freshman Halle Welch led St. Francis in each of the 1,600 and 3,200 meters while sophomore Mia Hollar was the program's top finisher in the 800 meters, as the Troubadours finished the second day of action at the Dublin Distance Fiesta track & field meet at Dublin High Saturday night.

Welch placed 26th out of 709 total runners in the 1,600 with a time of five minutes, 8.10 seconds; then finished 29th among the field of 271 in the 3,200 with a time of 11:06.07. Both times are team season bests, surpassing her previous PRs of 5:12.90 and 11:17.63, respectively.

Hollar joined freshman Emilia Ryan and senior Lucie Pickering Pick among the Troubadours who won their respective sections, with the top three in each (or top four in the fastest heat) garnering a prize of a T-shirt or bag. Ryan finished first in the 10th heat at 2:38.56, with Hollar leading the field in the 12th (2:34.79). They ended up as the two best St. Francis finishers overall: Hollar in 157th, Ryan in 193rd among 598 total competitors.

Pickering Pick won the 19th heat of the 1,600 with a 5:39.52, with Sophia Hernandez crossing the line two places later (5:42.35). Then Emily Colonnello and Hollar finished 2-3 in the 20th heat to pick up additional souvenirs from the meet.

St. Francis returns to action with three more event group-specific meets: Oakmont's Valhalla Distance Carnival and Granite Bay's GBHS Field Festival on Friday, plus Bella Vista's Bronco Speed Festival in one week on March 29.
