Troubie track & field opens 2025 season at Oakmont

Troubie track & field opens 2025 season at Oakmont

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Sophomore Jasleen Gandhoke won the varsity girls' high jump with a leap of five feet, three inches; while also posting a runner-up time of 49.25 seconds in the varsity 300-meter hurdles, leading a delegation of St. Francis athletes at Oakmont High's Glenn Poole Invitational track & field meet Saturday.

The 5-3 effort matches Gandhoke's third-place performance at last year's Sac-Joaquin Section Division I championships, and misses her prep personal best of 5-4, set at the SJS Masters. It also meets the minimum qualifying standard for the Arcadia Invitational and the Sacramento Meet of Champions.

Other varsity highlights included the 4x100 relay squad of Lucia Vicio, Alexa Randall, Nassali Serwanga and Colleen Medina, which compiled a fourth-place 51.59. Freshman Halle Welch also took fourth in the 1,600 at 5:12.90, while sophomore Sunny Schranz opened the meet with a fifth in the 3,200 meters at 11:49.21. Randall won her heat and finished fifth overall in the 200 at 27.33.

Among frosh-soph events, soccer star Brynn Baker won the 200-meters with a wind-hindered 28.07, beating Sheldon's Jada Ilaide by more than four tenths of a second. Emily Colonello placed second in the 3,200 meters (12:48.20) while Sophia Kadel matched that finish in the 800 (2:32.10). Sophia Hernandez followed Colonnello by two places with a 12:59.46. Alyssa Tafoya made her 300 hurdles debut with a 56.36 time.

Junior Antonija Jezildzic enjoyed a solid start to her first varsity season among the SF throwers, including a seventh-place 93-6 in the discus. For reference, she broke the 90-foot threshold for the first time at last year's Delta League championships, winning the frosh-soph event with a 95-2 – a toss that surpassed her previous best by seven feet. Also of note: sophomore Anastacia Uniza made her prep debut in the triple jump (24-3.25), making her just the second Troubadour to compete in that event since 2019.

The Glenn Poole meet, named for the legendary coach and athletics director who helped launch both Colfax and Oakmont, kicks off a busy opening run for St. Francis track & field. The Troubies compete in a double dual with host Davis and Folsom on Wednesday, then head to Placer's LeFebvre Relays on Friday followed by the McClatchy-hosted Sacramento State High School Classic on Saturday.
