SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Lily Hall recorded two goals and an assist while senior Miley Blough turned in a brace of her own, leading No. 8-seed St. Francis to a 5-1 victory over No. 9 Turlock in the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I girls' soccer championship tournament at Cristo Rey's Adamson Family Sports Complex Friday.
The Troubadours improve to 15-5-4 for the year, and will await the result of the No. 1 Gregori-No. 16 Oak Ridge contest in Modesto.
Hall scored the first goal in just the second minute of the contest. Mia Nelson fired a shot from a Monet Zauner pass, but Bulldog sophomore Natalie Mabe blocked the attempt. However, the ball caromed toward the right side of the box to Hall. The San Diego State commit quickly delivered the goal, giving SF the lead just 90 seconds after the opening kick.
St. Francis dominated possession for much of the first half, with Turlock not reaching its attacking third until the seventh minute and not managing a shot until defender Victoria Flores sent a free kick well above the cage.
Blough made it a two-goal game with just 2:20 left before halftime. She collected an initial pass from defender Madeline Squaglia, eluded a challenge from Flores on the left side, then took the ball in for her 15th goal of the year.
The Bulldogs managed to threaten early after the break, with a corner kick flying over the goal box and a throw-in touching two players in front of the cage without a shot taken. Then in the 43rd minute, Mia Valencia ran down a loose ball and passed up to Julissa Perez for Turlock's lone score.

Perez, who entered the game with a team-leading 14 goals, managed to uncork two more shots in the next three minutes of play, but neither hit their mark. Instead, St. Francis answered with a pair of goals within a span of a minute. In the 51st, Azaria Agbodike delivered a cross from the right side of the box to Nelson, whose second touch sent the ball in for the third Troubie goal. Then in the 52nd, Hall sent a ball inward to Blough, who made a quick turn and put a left-footed blast on the ball for the 4-1 lead.
The Troubies continued to enjoy the offensive momentum down the stretch. Trinity Ito's pass came just inches shy of a Hall header in the 56th. Zauner fired a shot that barely escaped the net but for a save by the Turlock keeper. Blough had a shot glance off the post, then a set piece that barely missed the right side. It took until 6:20 remained in the game, or the 74th minute, that Hall completed her first varsity brace. The Bulldog defense opted to play the ball short along the Troubies' right side. Hall came in to steal possession, then fired cross-cage into the net from approximately 30 yards out.
Blough now has 15 goals for the year, while Hall doubled her season total to four. Nelson's goal marked her first as a varsity player.
St. Francis' next action depends on the outcome of the opposite first-round. A Gregori win will result in a 6 p.m. road tilt down in Modesto on Monday. An Oak Ridge upset means the Troubies would host their fellow Sierra Foothill League opponent at Cristo Ray at 3 p.m.
