Troubies' JV Red blanks Folsom, 4-0

Troubies' JV Red blanks Folsom, 4-0
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Freshman midfielder Olivia Hamm scored a goal and assisted on one of Sofia Rabinovitz' two, boosting the St. Francis junior varsity Red to a 4-0 shutout of Folsom in girls' prep soccer action at the SFHS campus field Tuesday afternoon.

The Troubadours improve to 13-3-2 in their home finale.

St. Francis crafted a 2-0 lead within the first 16 minutes of play, with 20 mile-per-hour winds largely behind. Hamm scored the game's first goal with a help of such gusts. She worked her way up the right baseline then attempted to center the ball to Rabinovitz, only for her pass to slice inward toward the left side of the cage. Hamm then did connect with Rabinovitz in the 16th, again playing the ball to the forward from the right flank. Bulldog goalkeeper Courtney Johnson deflected the pass but Rabinovitz corraled it and nudged the ball into the center of the net.

That lead stood up through halftime and well into the second half, with Johnson turning back shots from Rabinovitz, Abby Clark, Giuliana Del Guerra and Gwyneth O'Brien for almost 30 full minutes after the break. Del Guerra delivered in the 70th, converting an assist from Angelina Chavez along the left side of the penalty area.

Rabinovitz completed her third brace of the season in the 75th, driving largely unopposed for some 30 yards before planting her shot. Del Guerra and Rabinovitz share the team scoring lead of 13 goals, while Rabinovitz' six assists on the year gives her the JV Red high of 32 points.

Sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Buffleben tallied six assists in front of the Troubie net.

The St. Francis varsity and JV Gold soccer teams were scheduled to face Davis for a Delta League matchup across the Yolo Causeway Tuesday night, but that game was postponed earlier in the day. A new date and time will be announced shortly.

Meanwhile, the JV Red wraps up its 2022 season on the road at Ponderosa on Thursday. This game has recently been pushed back 30 minutes to a 4 p.m. start in Shingle Springs.
