Medina scores career high in road test at Oak Ridge

EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. – Senior guard Colleen Medina shot 7 of 12 from the floor with a pair of three-pointers en route to a career-high 16 points but St. Francis still ended up on the losing end of 67-41 final in a Sierra Foothill League girls' basketball game at Oak Ridge Friday night.

The Troubadours even their record to 8-8 while dropping to 2-3 in league play. The Trojans, ranked No. 2 among Division I teams in the Sac-Joaquin Section and No. 7 in the state by MaxPreps, improve to 12-6 for the year with an unblemished 4-0 SFL record.

Medina also had four steals, matching fellow guard Natalia Zitelli for the team lead. Senior Lexi London added nine points while freshman Hassanah Ramsey-Gilbert contributed another eight points to go with her team-best six rebounds. Overall, St. Francis shot just .340 (16-for-47) from the field, and .257 not counting Medina's offense.

Also a standout defensive back in flag football and sprinter for the SF track & field team, Medina returned to the basketball program in 2025-26 after a one-year absence from the sport. Her previous high was 10 points, set in the Troubies' 95-19 drubbing of Elk Grove on January 17, 2024 – almost exactly two years prior.

London had three of SF's first four buckets of the game, with her left-side runner keeping the Troubies within a 14-8 deficit with  1:31 left in the first period. Then Oak Ridge sophomore Tessa Brandon scored the first of her eventual 18 points, igniting a run of 20 straight Trojan points into the second period. Freshman Elise Vipond ended the scoreless stretch with a successful drive, and ended the first half by assisting Zitelli on a score with four ticks remaining, but SF trailed by a 38-15 margin at the break.

Oak Ridge extended its lead to as much as 56-21 late in the third until Medina took over the scoring in the fourth. She poured in 14 of her 16 points in the final frame, including a three-pointer from the top of the key at the 2:38 and a step-up bomb with 1:30 remaining. In fact, London was the only other Troubie to score in the fourth: Ramsey-Gilbert found her open for a three on the opening possession as part of seven straight.

Friday's game was a varsity-only event, the opener of a doubleheader that featured Jesuit vs. Oak Ridge in the nightcap. St. Francis' junior varsity teams played the night before, with Gold picking off a road win over the Trojans and Red falling at Antelope in a non-league tilt.

All three Troubadour squads reunite on Saturday for the much-anticipated Holy Hoops rivalry date with Christian Brothers. JV Red begins the event with a 2:30 p.m. start, the first frosh-soph matchup between the two teams since the 2017-18 season. JV Gold will follow at 4 p.m., with varsity finishing the tripleheader with a 5:30 tip.
