SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Freshman guard Sydney Teoh scored 14 points while sophomore point Sianna Squires added another 12 to lead St. Francis JV Gold to a dominating 58-6 win over Will C. Wood to win the junior varsity bracket of the Viking Tournament at Valley High School Saturday.
Additionally, Teoh and Squires each earned all-tournament distinction, with Teoh adding Most Outstanding Player accolades.
The Troubadours now improve to 6-1 and have won three straight by an average margin of more than 40 points.
"I think we've really hit our stride. We're getting great ball movement on offense and our defensive intensity is really carrying us right now," said head JV Gold coach Melissa Triebwasser. "To come out in a championship game and get a 50-point win, I'm just super proud and impressed with the girls. Like Coach Carmichael said after the game, we've improved so much."
Teoh poured in all but two of her team-leading offense in the second quarter, while Squires did most of her offensive damage in 10 points in the first. Emma Karamanoukian added nine. Teoh also drained a pair of three-pointers in that second stanza.
"It's awesome to see a freshman come in and play at such a high level. We're super lucky that we have incredible guard play across the board, and so much experience at that position. She has really asserted herself defensively and obviously, she's a gifted player offensively. I think she played with a lot of confidence the last two nights."
The Trouble varsity squad competed in the third-place game against the host Vikings. Coverage on that game is available at GoTroubies.com.
The JV Gold returns to action in a road game on Monday at Grant High, leading into the varsity's contest. Tip-off times are 5 and 7 p.m.
