Troubies tame Broncos in section LAX playoff opener

MATHER, Calif. – Junior Keira Miles netted a game-high seven goals, senior Zia Smith added another four, while senior Karly Okamoto posted six total points with two goals and four assists, as No. 3-seeded St. Francis dominated No. 6 seed Bella Vista by a 16-2 final in the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section girls' lacrosse championship tourney at Mather Sports Center Tuesday evening.

The Troubadours improve to 11-4 for the season. The Broncos end their most successful season to date with a 16-2 mark.

Miles netted two goals in the first, three in the third and two more in the fourth. Junior Jade Abalateo matched Okamoto's two goals, with senior Olivia Hamm hit the remaining score. Freshman Skye Smith earned an assist, feeding Abalateo on a goal to start the fourth quarter.

Hamm also led SF with five draw controls, with Z. Smith and Miles chipping in four apiece. Meanwhile, defenders Sara Ellis, Cami Zucker and Sara Rabinovitz each posted three caused turnovers. Overall, the Troubies dominated these two areas, winning 14 of the team's 20 draws while disrupting BV by forcing 14 total steals.

Miles' scoring output raised her season total to 63, putting her behind only former teammates Brynley Hodge and Jane Tattersall, who each poured in 70 goals in 2023. Okamoto's four dimes raised season total to 35. She holds the top four single-season marks in Troubie history: 52 in 2023, 48 in 2022, 39 last year and 35 with at least one game remaining on the 2025 schedule. Okamoto passed the century mark for goals: 26 as a freshman, 33 as a sophomore, 17 as a junior and 25 as a senior for 101 total.

St. Francis now heads to Loomis for a matchup of Sierra Foothill League teams in the semifinal round. The two teams split their regular-season matchups in wildly disparate outcomes: a 7-5 Troubadour win at Mather on March 18, then a 21-15 DO victory at Golden Eagle Stadium on April 10.
