Miles hits century mark as Troubies blank Folsom

MATHER, Calif. – Junior midfielder Keira Miles scored a double hat trick – including the 100th of her career – while senior Zia Smith added four goals with team highs of five ground balls, two caused turnovers and four draw controls, helping St. Francis shut out Folsom, 20-0, in the varsity end of a Sierra Foothill League girls' lacrosse doubleheader at Mather Sports Complex Tuesday night.

The Troubadours improve to 7-2, both overall and in league play. The Bulldogs dip to 5-8 for the year with a 2-7 SFL mark.

Senior Olivia Hamm chipped in another three goals and three assists. Karly Okamoto added two goals and a team-leading five assists. Juniors Sara Ellis and Jade Abalateo each matched Okamoto's brace, while freshman Tristan Garcia tied with Z. Smith with four draw controls. Sophomore goalkeeper Claire Gabri captured her first shutout of her career, stopping four Folsom shots.

Miles entered the game with 99 career goals: 33 as a freshman, 37 last season and 29 through eight games in 2025. The University of Denver commit needed just a minute to reach the milestone score: she drew an eight-meter foul on her team's first possession, then converted the ensuing shot. Miles went on to score three more times in St. Francis' 9-0 first quarter: one each on assists from Ellis and Okamoto plus another on a trip to the eight-meter arc.

Miles added one more goal in each of the second and third frames. Meanwhile, Z. Smith scored on quick sticks in the 9th and 12th minutes before completing her hat trick off the opening draw in the fourth quarter. The Colorado Mesa commit then made it four goals on a pass from Ellis with 3:38 left in the game and would have had a fifth, had her back-handed attempt in the final seconds not been disqualified as a dangerous shot.

The Troubies invoked the 10-goal running clock on Ellis' eight-meter trip in the 14th minute of the game, then extended their lead to 14-0 by the break. Miles' third free-position goal represented the only scoring in third quarter, then Okamoto assisted Z. Smith, Hamm and Ellis while adding a goal of her own as part of a 5-0 final stanza.

Tuesday's 20-0 win marks the widest margin of victory for SF lacrosse since an identical 20-0 final over Casa Roble back on April 30, 2015.

The varsity shutout followed a 7-1 loss by the Troubadour junior varsity against Folsom. Sophomore Taylor Crotsley scored the lone St. Francis goal with 9:38 left in the second, driving through the critical scoring area following a foul. Akira Feguis, Molly Smallenberger and Sadie Tilney also managed shots on goal, but Bulldog goalie Kiera Mulvey came up with saves on each.

Both SF teams return to action at Granite Bay on Thursday. First draws are 5:30 and 7:15 p.m.

Note: the exact number of 100-goal careers for St. Francis lacrosse remains unknown, as statistical information does not exist for every season... However, based on available information, the Troubie career leaders are Brynley Hodge (164 from 2022-24), Hayley Kusserow (134 from 2012, 2014-15), Sarah Westover (133 from 2014-17), Jade Borg (129 from 2017-19), Jane Tattersall (113 from 2023-24)... Kusserow's totals are missing her sophomore season, but her other three years yielded 38, 55 and 41 goals... Emma Nyland netted 50 and 37 as a junior and a senior, with the MaxPreps era beginning in that 2008 junior year.
