LOOMIS, Calif. – Junior wing Brianna McGahan hit 10 of 16 from the floor, including a pair of three-pointers, to lead St. Francis to a 56-42 win over Calaveras in the championship semifinal of Del Oro's Mike "Tako" Takayama Memorial Tournament Friday night.
The Troubadours, ranked seventh in the Sacramento area by 49ers Cal-Hi Sports, wins their third straight game to improve to 8-1 for the year. They will face Clovis in the tournament final at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
McGahan's 22 points led three SF players with double-digit offense. Chidera Okoye notched a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Sydney Teoh matched McGahan with a 2-for-4 night beyond the arc en route to her 10 points. McGahan also led her team with four steals.
Jadyn Weaver chipped in another nine points and Emily Dusel grabbed six rebounds for the win.
St. Francis now takes on a Cougars team that dispatched host Del Oro, 69-40, in the opposite semifinal. Clovis holds an 8-1 record and ranks 19th in the state according to MaxPreps. The Cougars play in a tough Tri-River Athletic Conference that includes crosstown rivals Clovis West, Clovis East and Buchanan.
Del Oro's tournament also serves as a fundraiser for the Mike Takayama Scholarship, named for the school's beloved girls' basketball and softball coach, who passed away in 2016. Tako won a Sac-Joaquin Section-record 627 games and captured 15 Sierra Foothill League titles at the hoop helm.
