SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Navaeh Gavino, Annie Swanson and Lauren Herbelin each scored in double figures as St. Francis' JV Red squad defeated Del Campo, 48-24, in girls' prep basketball action Saturday afternoon.
The Troubadours win their fourth straight game to improve to 5-1. The win also marks the second of the year in the series, having defeated the Cougars by a 56-14 final back on November 19.
Gavino continues to lead SF's all-freshman JV Red team offensively, hitting six field goals – including a pair of three-pointers – for 18 total points. Swanson and Herbelin each shot 5-for-8 from the floor for 12 and 10 points, respectively. Swanson also drained a three and added a tick from the free-throw line.
No information is available on Del Campo's individuals.
The Troubies take a week-long respite from competition to focus on final examinations. They will join their JV Gold and varsity sisters in tournament action at Oak Ridge from Dec. 21-23. JV Red will face the host Trojans on that Wednesday (3:30 p.m.), Nevada Union on Thursday (2 p.m.) then Folsom on Friday (11:30 a.m.) in the Freshman Jamboree.
The St. Francis JV Gold and varsity teams return to action on Tuesday for a home doubleheader with Grant Union. Each squad has a tourney that weekend: the JV Gold at Christian Brothers' La Salle Classic, the varsity at Del Oro's Mike Takayama Memorial
