CONCORD, Calif. – Sophomore Trinity Ito scored two goals while freshmen Charlotte Kryski and Paityn Lowery each added a goal and assist, as St. Francis blanked Monte Vista, 5-0, to highlight action at the Cougar JV Classic girls' soccer tournament, hosted by Carondelet Friday and Saturday.
The Troubadours suffered a shutout loss on Friday to Berkeley, 4-0, then another on Saturday to the host Cougars, 2-0, to finish their season-opening weekend with a 1-2 record.
Ito, on loan from SF's JV Gold squad, netted both of her goals within the opening minutes of the second half against the Mustangs. Kryski posted assisted Lowery lone score of the first half in just the sixth minute, then hit a goal of her own in the 48th. Lowery then assisted Anna George, another JV Gold member, for the Troubies' fifth goal in the 52nd.
A shortage of available players forced the Red coaching staff to draw from unusual places to take part in Saturday's contests. Ito and George came over from JV Gold for the weekend, while team manager Sofia Tan also saw reserve minutes in the two Saturday games. Additionally, Liliana Hash saw action as both goalkeeper and defender, assuming the latter role when Xitlali Rosales guarded the cage.
St. Francis had its road Sierra Foothill League tripleheader at Rocklin get postponed from December 12 to January 11. This means JV Red goes idle until hosting Inderkum for a 3 p.m. game on its old campus field. Meanwhile, JV Gold and varsity return to action on December 13 and 14 for River City's Raider Cup Classic.
