Troubies shut out SFL leaders on Senior Night

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Miley Blough scored two goals while senior Sofia Rabinovitz tacked on another as St. Francis shut out Del Oro, 3-0, to highlight a rain-drenched Sierra Foothill League girls' soccer tripleheader at Cristo Rey High's Adamson Family Sports Complex Tuesday night.

The Troubadours improve to 11-5-4 overall and even their league record to 5-5-2. More impressively, they hand the Golden Eagles their first SFL loss: 7-1-4 as part of a 8-2-4 season mark.

Additionally, Tuesday marked the regular-season finale for St. Francis, which honored eight seniors prior to the contest: Sophia Hendrix, Sarah Bashore, Estella Bacsafra, Carly Hall, Giuliana Del Guerra, Maggie Koerwitz, Sofia Rabinovitz and Jada Dwyre.

Blough put SF on the board in just the sixth minute of the contest, firing in a blast from more than 35 yards deep. Then four minutes later, the Troubies doubled their lead with Sofia Rabinovitz' successful header of a Dwyre throw-in from the left sideline. Overall, St. Francis dominated possession the first half, thanks in part to the gusty winds in its favor before the break. In fact, DO did not manage a shot until the 34th, when Brooklyn Tanon's attempt sailed high of the cage.

By the second half, the weather system shifted to that of a crosswind, with the Golden Eagles largely controlling possession with a 6-0 shooting margin during the first 30 minutes. Sofia Rabinovitz nearly struck again in the 71st when Norah White scampered into the attacking end and played a pass to the Hastings College commit just outside the left corner of the box. However, the DO goalkeeper saved the shot on the short hop to keep the deficit at two goals.

Instead, St. Francis struck again thanks to Del Guerra, who drew a foul just right of center about 30 yards out from the goal. Blough handled the ensuing kick, and converted to complete her brace in the 73rd. Blough almost made it a hat trick when she drew her own foul at roughly the same distance in the 77th. This time, DO keeper Brekyn Davenport-Murrish made the stop.

The Blough goals are the eighth and ninth of the year for the future Nevada Wolf Pack signee. Sofia Rabinovitz now has seven goals on the season while her younger sister Mia snared her seventh goalkeeper shutout. Dwyre's assist raises her total to nine, matching Blough for the team lead.

The varsity win followed a 3-1 loss for the Troubies' JV Red squad. St. Francis got on the board when Elizabeth McNearney's through ball set up a Paityn Lowery goal in the 39th minute, sending the two teams to the break in a 1-1 deadlock. However, DO scored on a set piece just two minutes into the second half, then extended its lead on a counterattack in the 52nd.

Following the varsity win, JV Gold rallied back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to claim a 4-3 win. Monet Zauner scored goals in the 43rd and 50th minutes, both on follow-up shots of initial attempts from Azaria Agbodike and Tallas Schaedler, respectively. In between those scores, Agbodike netted the go-ahead goal thanks to her missile of a shot in the 44th.

Schaedler later scored her own goal in the 72nd to lift the Troubies to a 4-1 edge. Del Oro later cut into the margin with a long goal from the left flank in the 78th. Then despite the clock running out almost two minutes prior, the Golden Eagles hit a third score from the right side to bring the score to 4-3.

Zauner's brace raises her season total to 20 goals. Schaedler now has five goals with a team-leading 12 assists, with Agbodike up to 10 games and four assists despite playing in just 11 out of the team's 19 games. JV Gold remains undefeated at 16-0-3 with just two games left on the 2024-25 slate.

All three teams return to action with two road SFL sets: Thursday at Oak Ridge followed by Monday at Davis. The Troubadours will then learn of their Sac-Joaquin Section postseason fate. They entered Tuesday's action ranked eighth in the SJS and fifth among the section's Division I teams.
