Gabri leads Troubie jayvees to draw at Folsom

FOLSOM, Calif. – Junior midfielder Keira Miles netted a team-high seven goals while senior Zia Smith chipped in another four to go with six draw controls, as St. Francis rolled to a 16-5 win over Folsom in the varsity nightcap of a Sierra Foothill League girls' lacrosse doubleheader at Prairie City Stadium Thursday night.

The Troubadours remain unbeaten at 2-0.

Junior Sara Ellis added two goals, with Jade Abalateo, Tristan Garcia and Skye Smith chipping in one apiece. Hamm also led SF with three assists. Sophomore goalkeeper posted two saves but also notched two interceptions as part of a team-leading six ground balls.

Miles, who also totaled four caused turnovers, hit two goals in the first quarter, completed her hat trick by the 1:01 mark in the second, then scored two more in the fourth. Her back-to-back scores in the opening frame erased the Bulldogs' early lead, although the two teams matched up to a 4-4 impasse at the end of the first 12 minutes of play.

Still, the Troubies scored eight unanswered in the second quarter, including three straight from Z. Smith, then made it a 9-0 run with Miles scoring the only goal of the third quarter at the 9:22 mark.

The varsity win followed a 6-6 tie between St. Francis and an unbeaten Folsom JV squad in the opener. Taylor Crotsley and Delaney McGahan scored two goals while Elena Petrakis and Lucia Shepard each found the back of the net once. However, the command performance came from sophomore goalkeeper Claire Gabri, who notched nine of her 12 total saves in the second quarter alone.

Both St. Francis teams return to action in a Saturday doubleheader at Oak Ridge. JV begins at 3 p.m. with varsity following at 4:45 in a rematch of last year's inaugural Sac-Joaquin Section championship game.
