RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. – Sophomore Brynley Hodge scored a game-high four goals, senior Zahra Smith won eight of the game's 20 draws, and the varsity-junior varsity sister tandem of Abby and Olivia Alvernaz combined for seven goals and three assists in the two games, as St. Francis won both ends of a home lacrosse doubleheader against Bella Vista at Mather Sports Complex Friday night.
The varsity team beat the Broncos, 17-1, to improve to 7-2 for the year. The Troubadour jayvees prevailed by a 13-2 final to move to 5-3 overall.
Hodge also tallied an assist for five total points, matching Abby Alvernaz' two goals and three assists. Karly Okamoto, Louise Morr, Lauren Wieser and Elizabeth Barger also found the back of the net twice each, while Smith, Johanna Stevenson and Claire Westberg scored once apiece. Camdyn Zucker (three caused turnovers) and Westberg (six ground balls) also joined Smith in leading SFHS in the "hustle" stats.
The Troubies scored 11 goals in the first half, including four in a span of 97 seconds. Senior goalkeeper Bella McCullough notched five saves, including four after the break.
Similarly, the St. Francis JV took the game in hand quickly, with Olivia Alvernaz netting a career-best five goals. Zia Smith added a hat trick, with Matea Avery chipping in two goals with two assists. Olivia Hamm (2-1-3), Zoe Smith (0-2-2), Sofia Rabinovitz (1-2-3) and Chloe Garcia (0-1-1) also contributed to the offensive stat sheet.
The Troubies continue a long homestand with a doubleheader against Del Oro Monday night. As usual, first draws are 5:30 and 7 p.m. at Mather.
