DAVIS, Calif. – Junior Lacey Harmon scored in the 61st minute of the contest to erase a 1-0 halftime deficit then sophomore goalkeeper Mia Rabinovitz posted two diving saves in the final minute to help St. Francis salvage a 1-1 draw against Davis in Sierra Foothill League girls' soccer action at Ron & Mary Brown Stadium Thursday night.
The Troubadours move to 9-3-2 overall with a 3-2-2 record in league play. The Blue Devils are now 3-1-3, all in SFL play.
Harmon's goal came in the wake of a corner kick midway through the second half. Senior Miley Blough sent the ball into traffic, with sophomore Tallas Schaedler getting a piece of it. Davis cleared the ball out of the box toward its own bench. Harmon collected the loose ball along the right side and sent it back into the cage.
Harmon's goal erased the Blue Devils' initial lead, with senior Madison Lujan sending a through ball to junior Linh Ramirez in the 30th. Lujan had managed two shots for Davis in the first 11 minutes, then had both attempts that Rabinovitz turned back in the final 60 seconds of the game.
Rabinovitz totaled three saves in her second-half appearance, while starter Millie Katzeff had four stops in her 40 minutes minding the cage.
The SF varsity game followed a 2-0 win for the Troubies' Gold junior varsity squad. Oddly, St. Francis got on the board in part due to an outstanding defensive play moments earlier. Sophomore Anna George beat the Davis goalkeeper and had what appeared to be an easy look at the goal, until defender Luciana Brusca swooped in a cleared out the attempt. Fortunately, for the Troubies, freshman forward Hazel Pryor won the ball, then assisted Charlotte Kryski for the first goal of the game.
Then in the 21st, Cali Chambers doubled the lead on a follow-up shot. Teammate Bridget Beard fired the first attempt from the right side, only to have it batted away by the Davis keeper. But Chambers covered the opposite post for the put-back score, setting the board at 2-0.
The Blue Devils managed five straight shots in the last 10 minutes before halftime, but failed to reduce their deficit. St. Francis held its hosts without a shot in the second half to protect the win.
JV Red closed the tripleheader on the losing end of a 3-0 shutout. Annabelle Ruud and Eva Delarue scored for Davis, which also benefited from a Troubie own goal in the 43rd.
All three programs conclude a three-game road stretch on Tuesday at Rocklin. Per the SFL Tuesday format, JV Red will open against the Thunder at 3:30, varsity plays at 5:30, then JV Gold has the 7:15 p.m. finale.
